gallupARTS has received a $10,000 Challenge America award from the NEA. The funds will be used to support an artist residency by a Native American artist from the region. A total of $350,000 was received by New Mexico organizations in the latest round of Art Works awards of which Challenge America is a part. The Albuquerque Arts Board seeks to purchase existing works of art that will become part of the permanent collection of the Albuquerque Public Art Urban Enhancement Division. The committee seeks large and medium scale works of art made by artists residing in New Mexico in a range of media including painting, printmaking, drawing, collage, photography (for all digital photography original works must be printed on archival paper using archival inks), weaving, mixed media and assemblage. The committee is especially interested in larger scale, original two-dimensional works of art suitable for the Convention Center as well as for various hallways in City Hall. Arts & the Military
New Mexico Arts held its third Arts & the Military summit on January 9, 2018 in Roswell. The thirty-five participants represented education, active-duty as well as retired military, artists, musicians, actors, art and music therapists, librarians, a horse rescue operation owner and others who support the arts in military settings. Platinum Music Awards Nominations Open
The New Mexico Music Commission Foundation (NMMCF) will present the second annual Platinum Music Awards (PMA) ceremony and show on August 30, 2018, at the Lensic Performing Arts Center in Santa Fe. At this gala event, six of New Mexico’s music legends will receive the Platinum Music Award for lifetime achievement. All, including arts councils, are invited to nominate musicians, bands, music teachers, producers and any person or organization based in the state that have contributed significantly to our musical culture. The nomination form and instructions can be downloaded from www.newmexicomusic.org. Nominations are accepted between February 1 and March 15 and will be reviewed by a jury of music industry experts chosen by the New Mexico Music Commission. The honorees will be announced April 19. Proceeds of the 2018 Platinum Music Awards will benefit the Music Commission’s Music Education initiatives, most notably its Music in the Schools and ART2ART projects.
